The society of the city of Riga migrates to the drawings of Sergey, an exemplary student of the Riga Realschule.
In 1912-13, Sergey put under his drawings his signature: ‘the square root of two’: he is a child, the son of both parents. But by that time, Mama had already left for Petersburg…
Sergey perceives society lions, parrots, and elephants with no less irony than dogs-officials or turkeys-commoners.

Granville’s illustration to the book “Private and Public Life of Animals.”

The father’s house in Riga, with all its collections and library, was ravaged during the years of the Revolution and the Civil War. In 1934, Sergey Mikhailovich purchased from “Private and Public Life of Animals” in the 1867 edition from a second-hand bookstore — in memory of the lost volume from his childhood.’
