In a letter to Mama from the end of May 1914, Sergey, as usual, talks about his school grades, about the exams he had successfully passed at the end of the school year. The letter is designed as a small theater. Its characters are humanized animals. Next to the story about the exams Sergey drew the vacations spent at the Riga seaside. Kotik, Little Cat, that was the name his father called him. Instead of the signature, Sergey put a drawing: Little Cat calmly walks along a crumbling board. The catastrophe of the world war is not far off. Under the Little Cat is the caricature of events of the eve of World War I. The prince of Albania, who did not rule for long, the Turkish pasha who threatened him, the Austro-Hungarian military in Albania… Sergey the Little Cat was drawn among the ‘fauna’ of the city of Riga. ‘How do you like my drawings? ’ he asks his mother in the letter.
