Alexander Golitsyn was born in St. Petersburg. As a child, he entered the Corps of Pages, one of the most prestigious military educational institutions in Russia, and after graduation was enrolled with the Imperial Guard Hussar Regiment. The prince’s military career was a short one, as he resigned as a cavalry captain shortly after the end of the Russo-Turkish war.
In his civil life, Golitsyn promoted the development of education and healthcare, was successful in working with various charitable organizations, large enterprises and government institutions and received many awards for his service.
