The exhibition of the Valuy Museum of History and Art presents the graphic work “Varvara”s homestead” created by the Soviet and Russian artist Gennady Kudryavtsev.
The future painter was born on April 28, 1942, in the village of Troitskoye, Krasnoyarsk territory. After school, he studied architecture but never graduated and entered the Irkutsk school of arts. He completed his studies in 1973.
From 1975 to 1981, Gennady Kudryavtsev lived and worked in Novosibirsk. It was at that time when his landmarks in painting were the works of ancient Russian masters and artists: Vasily Surikov, Konstantin Korovin, Mikhail Vrubel, Nicholas Roerich, and others.
In 1981, Gennady Kudryavtsev moved to Belgorod. In 1990, he became a member of the Union of artists of Russia, In four years, he was elected Chairman of the Board of the Belgorod Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. From 1998 to 2008, Kudryavtsev was a member of the Board of the Belgorod Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. In 2011, he was awarded the title of “Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.” Since 1973, Kudryavtsev has constantly participated in exhibitions. The artist’s paintings are kept in the collection of many art museums in Russia, in private collections in the USA, England, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Yugoslavia.
Gennady Kudryavtsev is an artist who created his well-recognized style. In his paintings, he immerses the viewer into a special, mysterious and colorful world, full of deep philosophical meaning. Kudryavtsev works in the technique of oil painting, tempera, watercolors, in the genres of landscape, still life, portrait, genre painting, as well as in the field of artistic design.
People are always present at Kudryavtsev’s landscapes — architectural or natural — who can tell their own story. The artist draws the audience’s attention to the corners of Russia, where there is no one to help the elderly and they have to care for themselves: to heat their homes with firewood and draw water from the well.
