‘Baikal. End of September’ from the exposition of the Valuy Museum of History and Art was painted by the artist Gennady Kudryavtsev.
Gennady Kudryavtsev was born on April 28, 1942, in the village of Troitskoye, Krasnoyarsk territory. After school, he studied architecture but never graduated. Soon, Kudryavtsev entered the Irkutsk school of arts, where he completed his studies in 1973.
From 1975 to 1981, Gennady Kudryavtsev lived and worked in Novosibirsk. His landmarks in paintings were of ancient Russian masters and artists: Vasily Surikov, Konstantin Korovin, Mikhail Vrubel, Nicholas Roerich, and others.
In 1981, Gennady Kudryavtsev moved to Belgorod. In 1990, he became a member of the Union of artists of Russia, and five years later, he was elected Chairman of the Board of the Belgorod Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. From 1998 to 2008, Kudryavtsev was a member of the Board of the Belgorod Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. In 2011, he was awarded the title of ‘Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.’ Five years later, he was the prize winner of the Governor of the Belgorod region prize for achievements in fine arts. Gennady Kudryavtsev was also awarded the medal ‘Spirituality, Legacy, Artistry.’ The artist’s paintings are kept in the collection of many art museums in Russia, in private collections in the USA, England, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Yugoslavia.
Gennady Kudryavtsev is an artist who created his well-recognized style—immersing his audience into an impressive, mysterious, and colorful world full of deep philosophical meaning. Kudryavtsev works in the technique of oil painting, tempera, watercolors, in the genres of landscape, still life, portrait, genre painting, as well as in the field of artistic design.
Gennady Kudryavtsev was born in Siberia, so he loved provincial towns and quiet villages with its distinctive aura and ancientry. He said: “I consider my small homeland incredible. This region is exciting, mysterious, and harsh. I grew up in this environment.” Siberian nature, rural life, a large and friendly family — all this brought him up as being in love with the world around him, its nature. The weather in Siberia is unpredictable, but September on Lake Baikal is always dry and warm. In September, the lake is incredibly picturesque — this is what the artist conveyed on the canvas, using all the color of the “autumn” palette: from yellow and mustard to red and Burgundy.
