Famous publicist Nemirovich-Danchenko, traveling in the 1870s along the Volga, met Andrew Karelin in Nizhny Novgorod, then visited his photo studio and explored the photographs.
Later, in his essays ‘On the Volga’, the meeting played an important role. ‘When Andrew showed me the pages of his art album, I presumed that he was fooling me, that these were the pictures made from paintings, and was only convinced that these are indeed real photographs when I recognized many familiar faces in the picture’, – Nemirovich-Danchenko recalled.
This proves once again that Karelin strove to prove and demonstrate the unlimited possibilities of a new type of artistic creation - photography.
