Kuzma Sergeyevich Petrov-Vodkin (1878—1939) was a Russian and Soviet painter, graphic artist, art theorist, writer and teacher, born in Khvalynsk, Saratov Governorate.
In 1916, the Khvalynsk District Office for Military Service summoned K.S. Petrov-Vodkin as a soldier at the place of birth. The artist spent several months at home – from June to December. Probably, it was right there, in his parents’ house or in his own country house near the area of Cheremshany, that Petrov-Vodkin painted the picture Fektya, portraying his distant relative Feoktista Lipatova, a girl from Khvalynsk.
