At the turn of the 20th century, Borisovka was the district center of handicrafts: icon painting and decorating, leather crafting, saddlery, shoemaking, carpentry, sheepskin manufacturing, pottery, blacksmithing, wheel and bow production and others. Artisans sold their goods mainly at markets. Probably for this reason, the first craft school was opened there, rather than in Grayvoron. In 1917, it was transformed into the Borisovka Higher Vocational School. The program was focused on the development of both general knowledge and agriculture-specific skills.

In the first years of the new Soviet regime, the government practically did not provide support to educational institutions: extremely small amounts were allocated for the purchase of textbooks, equipment and tools. Despite the difficulties, the school continued to function.

In 1920, it was renamed a technical school, and a number of new disciplines were introduced. The institution produced professional carpenters; there was also a course on electrical engineering.

From 1930 to 1937, the Borisovka Electric and Agricultural Institute (Electroselkhozuch — the name of 1929) was headed by Alexey Alexeyevich Glybin. Under him, the institution received a new name — “tractor school” — and became one of the first training centers in the Belgorod area for drivers, tractor drivers and foremen of tractor brigades. The director paid great attention to the preparation of new equipment and selection of teachers, instructors, and technical personnel. Classrooms in Building No. 1 were equipped for theoretical courses on general and special subjects. Practical classes were held in the garage, where students got acquainted with the configuration of tractors and other agricultural machinery.

In 1940–1941, the school specialized in training locksmiths, turners and blacksmiths who could repair tractors, cars and other machines. Such specialists, after training, were employed in workshops of machine-building stations. In the 1950s, the entire country actively engaged in the development of fallow and virgin lands. Following the needs of the time, the tractor school underwent a new transformation and became a school of agricultural mechanization.

The photo presented in the exhibition was taken against the background of the school. An accordion and bicycle bring a note of cheerfulness to the group portrait and emphasize the breadth of interests of the Soviet citizen.
