The painting “Landscape (Horse on the Road)” was among the ten artworks that Gauguin sent from Dominica to Paris before his death, as he wanted Ambroise Vollard to sell them. Though Gauguin painted “Landscape” in his late years, the “echo” of impressionism, so typical of his early Tahitian works, can still be felt in it. In some of his late paintings, after exploring an interest in the decorative function of color, Gauguin once again turned to the lessons of impressionism. His brush strokes become more separated, but the colors are still saturated and keep their value.
