All his life Stanislav Zhukovsky, a Russian painter with Polish roots, dedicated to landscape painting. His numerous landscapes are characterized by diversity but country estates painting where elements of humanity are intimately intertwined in harmony with nature and architecture holds a special place in his art.
A White House by Zhukovsky presented in the exhibition is a perfect example of country estates painting. It appeared at the Astrakhan Art Gallery in 1927 whose collection was replenished by the Central Repository of the State Museum Fund.
The painting by Zhukovsky depicts an estate house, surrounded by the park, on a sunny autumn day. Nature and architecture conveyed by the painter appear to be in unity on the canvas: the house with its symmetric facades which was built in the Epoch of Classicism organically coexists with the aged park trees; at the same time saturated colors of nature harmoniously shade the white walls of the building.
However, in spite of its vibrant colors, the landscape is inspired by elegiac mood.
