The ‘Silence’ painting from the collection of the Valuy Museum of History and Art was created by the artist Yulia Volkova. She was born on September 25, 1986, in Belgorod. At the age of two, she moved to the village of Kazinka in the Valuy district of the Belgorod region together with her parents. In 1993, Volkova entered the first grade of Kazinka high school. During her school years, she often won literary contests and fine art competitions. She spent her childhood in the village, which not only influenced her best works but also became a core factor in her creative activity.
In 2004, the future artist graduated from high school with a gold medal and entered the Belgorod State University at the Department of Fine Arts of the Pedagogical Faculty. In 2009, she graduated from the University with honors and returned to her parents' home. A year later, she started teaching at the Valuy Children’s Art School named after V.D. Grigorov.
Until September 2012, Yulia Volkova combined teaching at the Children’s Art School and working at the Kazin fashion rural library, where she was engaged in publishing. In 2012-2014, she worked as a designer in the Inter-urban Central library of the Valuy district.
Volkova has three solo exhibitions of paintings at the Valuy Museum of History and Art. She also participated in regional exhibitions of the Union of Artists of Russia, gaining prizes in regional exhibitions and competitions of creative works among teachers of the Children’s Art School and the Children’s School of Arts.
Yulia Volkova depicted a rural landscape in her painting ‘Silence’. She painted an early spring. In the center of the canvas, there is a dilapidated, empty house on the outskirts of the village of Kazinka. The desolated building that used to be filled with voices is now silent and empty. Using cold and warm color combinations, Volkova conveyed a variety of feelings and moods — joy, sadness, tenderness, anxiety, and expectation.
Volkova’s landscape works vividly reveals the love of her local community, which has always inspired her. Her works are distinguished by the poetic perception of Russian nature, subtle portraying of light and air, as well as thoughtful compositions.
