The central theme of Maria Vasilyeva’s work has always been the Orel region, its beauty, peculiarity, and uniqueness. In 2014, the artist participated in the 15th Belgorod International Slavic Plein air “Sukharevo-2014”, held on the Valuy district’s territory from August 15 to 28, 2014. It was attended by artists from Belgorod, Kursk, Orel, Lipetsk, Kostroma, and Sergiev Posad (Russia), Kharkiv (Ukraine), and Niš(Serbia). The delegation was headed by Yuri Chernyshev, a member of the Board of the Belgorod branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. After the final Plein-air exhibition, the artist donated the painting ‘Little Hut’ to the Valuy Museum of History and Art holdings.
On the canvas, Maria Vasilyeva depicted the native rural landscape of the village of Sukharevo in the Valuy city district. The canvas is created using an oil painting technique. The artist placed a hut with a thatched roof and whitewashed walls in the center of the composition. A small house filled with the Russian soul attracts attention with its simplicity and routine.
There are tiny windows with closed shutters on the building’s main facade on the right and the left sidewall.

At the entrance to the hut, there are small wooden steps that have been leaning over time. Right in front of the cabin, an earthen path is trodden, along which geese walk. In the background, there is a leaning house going over the horizon.
