It took four years, from 1824 to 1827, to create a set of dessert plates ‘Roses’. For reference, the artists used pages from the three-volume botanical atlas Les Roses (Roses) by the famous French botanist and painter Pierre-Joseph Redoute. More precisely, in 1824—1826, a set of plates was produced, and in 1826—1827, the plates (in whole or in part) were replicated with the name of the flower added to the picture, while the number of the volume and page were indicated on the back.

Most of the plates in the set were stored at the Yusupov’s Moscow residence. By the end of the 19th century, all plates of the “Roses” set were moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg and were stored at the Yusupov Palace on the Moika River. Since 1916, they decorated the interior of the dining room in the part of the house occupied by the young couple, Felix and Irina Yusupov.
