The painter’s father bought this estate in 1817, and Camille Corot painted the neighborhood quite often. Painting the same landscape from nature and in studio was a particular feature of his artistic method. He considered his works painted in studio to be better. Moreover, he often revisited the paintings that were stored in his studio, modified them, and even repainted them. For this reason, it is complicated to date his art works. A series of Corot’s paintings from the 1860s can be defined as “reminiscences.” This painting is one of them. It is likely that the painting shows a view over a new pond with Cabassud houses on its banks. Camille Corot could have painted this from his studio on the second floor of his house.
