#2
Wassily Kandinsky was an artist and art theoretician, one of the founders of Abstract Expressionism. He was born in Russia, but spent most of his creative life in Germany and France.

He was also one of the founders of a European association of Expressionist artists -- The Blue Horseman. In the early stages of his work Kandinsky was inspired by French Fauvists.

Murnau. Summer Landscape is a sketch for the painting Houses on a Hill (1909).

Kandinsky worked on the painting while he was living in Murnau, a small village in the Bavarian Alps 50 kilometres from Munich.
