Koyba is part of the deer’s leg skin. It is used to make winter shoes, mittens, and fur mats. This part of the hide is the least susceptible to change and retains its shape well during long periods of use.
Koyba is not the only kind of reindeer hide. Parts of reindeer skins have their own names, such as “pyshik”, “nebluy”, “vyrostok”, “postel”, “lobash” (or “lby”), and “shyotki”. To sew skins together, tendon threads are used.
