Spasskoye-Lutovinovo and its suburbs were the favorite places of the artist Andrei Ilyich Kurnakov. For the first time he came here for the plein-air even before the war as a student at the Oryol Art School, and it was love at first sight and for life. The artist painted Spasskoye at any time of the year, at different times of the day, in any weather. When going there, Andrei Ilyich told his family that he was going to rest, but he always took a sketchbook, brushes and paints with him. Andrei Kurnakov has a great variety of landscapes with scenery of this amazing place, and all of them are created with great love.

And here again a date with Spasskoye. The artist settled down by his beloved pond, set up his trusty metal tripod, placed a large stretcher with a blank canvas on it, sat down on a small folding chair, picked up a volume of, probably, Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev, and paused to think. His posture is calm and free. He enjoys the very fact of being here, he dreams, he is saturated with the atmosphere. He looks ahead, but most likely in himself. What is there, deep down, what secrets will Spasskoye reveal to him this time?
The composite center of the picture is the artist himself, he is in the foreground. The opposite bank is illuminated by the sun, it is joyfully yellow, cheerful, with well-trodden paths. The artist is alone, in the shade, the sun does not prevent him from dreaming, only a few light spots on his face, jacket, green grass at his feet and on the ground create a feeling of happiness. With a thin brush, the author paints the face carefully, choosing warm ocher-brown, pinkish colors. The gold frame of the glasses gives extra sunlight. Everything is harmonious in the picture: the smooth flow of water, the trees reflected in it, the calm posture of a person.
The general blue color conveys the joyful, dreamy mood of the character. The blueness of the water, which reflects the high light sky, the transparency of the air, even a blue jacket - everything around breathes with joy and hope. A branch of a young oak lightly touches the artist’s head, strokes, caresses, as if greeting an old faithful friend. In this landscape, the nature is not depicted in detail, its main task is to convey the mood of the hero, to create a dreamy and eminent background.
