All of the artworks created by the American painter, sculptor, drawing artist, and writer are dedicated to the severe nature of Alaska, Greenland, the Atlantic, and their indigenous peoples. His paintings are a surprising combination of the primevalness and modernity of the majestic landscapes. Painted with bright local colors, the landscapes are very simple, but the images are still generalized and have the grandeur of the plastic approach.

The painting View from Fox Islands. Winter. Alaska was created during Kent’s travels in Alaska with his young son. They built a log house on Fox Island in Resurrection Bay, where they lived for many months. Alaska defined Rockwell Kent not only as a traveler, but also as a writer. In 1920, his first self-illustrated book “Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska” was published. Gloomy landscapes painted during these travels can be seen alongside the light, transparent views of the real Alaska, which are based on the contrast of the snow-covered rocks and graphical patterns of bald tree branches.
