“Starry Night” (Dutch: De sterrennacht) is one of the most famous paintings by the Dutch post‑impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh[2]. It depicts the view from the eastern window of Van Gogh’s bedroom in Saint‑Rémy‑de‑Provence, showing the predawn sky and a fictional village. The painting was created in June 1889; since 1941, it has been housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. According to the renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, this is the first painting in which the sky is the main subject of the image.
