The sculptural composition “Boy with a Fish” is made of artificial stone and is mounted on a brick pedestal. In 1928, the statue was installed on the building of the Cranz Public School. It was removed in 1972 and transferred several times. Eventually, the damaged statue ended up on the grounds of kindergarten No. 6, where it was discovered by local historians. A decision was made that the statue should be donated to the local museum. After restoration, in April 2020, the statue was placed in the garden of the Zelenogradsk Museum of Local Lore. The statue “Boy with a Fish” became the seventh element of the open-air sculptural composition along with a fragment of an ancient column found on the beach after a storm, and a large millstone. Before the statue could be installed in the park, it was prepared by experts.

The statue was well-preserved. By painting the figure repeatedly year after year, the kindergarten employees managed to keep it in good condition. When the statue was cleaned, several layers of paint were removed. They served as a kind of protective outerwear for the old statue. However, some parts of the face and neck had to be restored. This work was carried out by Olga Vasilyeva, a ceramist from the Art Workshop. She prepared a special composition and used it to fix the defects. The hard work was completed by the construction company owner Oleg Levashov.

Before World War II, the statue decorated the building which currently houses the “Vector” school. According to the local historian Leonid Gorbovskikh, during the Soviet period, the statue was located on the back of the school building. One of the few old photos features something resembling the statue. At the level of the third floor, there were symmetrical platforms, on one of which the figure can be seen. Presumably, the statue in the photo is “Boy with a Fish”.

In order for the viewer to properly perceive the statue’s proportions, it should be placed in an elevated position. The museum’s curators agree with that and believe that the boy’s figure should be installed on a pedestal.
