The exhibition “Zelenogradsk District: A History in Artifacts” presents archaeological finds which tell the story of the amber trade between the local population and the Roman Empire, and of life on the Sambia Peninsula during the Great Migration. The exhibition also includes items from Prussian and Scandinavian burial mounds near Zelenogradsk.
Visitors can discover the appearance and occupations of the Prussian and Scandinavian inhabitants of a Viking trading settlement, explore the materials from the period of the Teutonic Order, learn about the fishing industry and everyday life in the region, the history of the royal resort Cranz (renamed Zelenogradsk in 1946), and the life of the resort between the 19th century and the Second World War.
The exhibition features artifacts and documents dedicated to the battles on the Sambia Peninsula during the East Prussian offensive, as well as finds from the battlefields near Cranz and on the Sambia Peninsula, nowadays known as Zelenogradsk and Zelenogradsk District.
The exhibition also includes a
collection of materials, artifacts, and documents about the post-war history of
the newly formed Kaliningrad Region, the development of Zelenogradsk, and its
first Soviet settlers.
