The drawing with the image of St. Elizabeth of Thuringia was presumably created by the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Feodorovna. Only some part of the Duchess' pieces of art have survived till now. An unusual panorama is drawn on the sheet - the composition combines images from different times.

In the central part of the sheet, the author depicted Elizabeth of Thuringia, a patron saint and one of the founders of the ancient Hesse family. The Grand Duchess was also of its members. Elizaveta Feodorovna, born in Germany, had been Lutheran until 1891, when she converted to the Orthodox Christian tradition in Russia.

Elizabeth of Thuringia lived in the 13th century. She was the spouse of the ruler of Thuringia, one of the German provinces. She devoted all her time to the sick, the poor and the needy, helping and ministering to them. When the province under her rule suffered from famine and plague after a cataclysmic flood, she gave alms out from her own means - even her clothes and holy vessels were used for this purpose. Elizabeth of Thuringia founded a hospital for the poor in the German city of Marburg, where she worked, cared for the patients and collected donations for the hospital.

In the 13th century, a church was erected in Marburg in honor of the saint; this church is drawn in the upper right corner of the sheet.

The left part of the drawing presents the Church of the Protection of the Theotokos. It is located in the Saints Martha and Mary Convent in Moscow, which was founded by the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Feodorovna herself in the early 20th century. It had an outpatient clinic and a hospital, and patients in serious health conditions were referred there from all over Moscow. There was also a library, free canteen and a shelter in the monastery. Elizaveta Feodorovna personally cared for seriously ill patients and would read the Book of Psalms over the dead. Together with the nuns she would make rounds of the poor areas of Moscow. The lower part of the sheet holds the drawing of the entrance gate into the Convent of Mercy with an icon of the Theotokos at the top.
Trees of an unusual shape are drawn in front of the gate - they have roses instead of leaves on their branches. Elizabeth of Thuringia was traditionally depicted surrounded by flowers. One of the legends has it that the philanthropist’s husband did not approve of her spending money to help the needy, so she had to hand out bread in the streets behind her husband’s back. One day, he met Elizabeth and asked what she was carrying in her apron, and it turned out to be roses, not bread. The flowers in the drawing represent the tradition of charity, laid by St. Elizabeth of Thuringia and continued by the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.
