Such reproducers were produced in the USSR from the 1920s. The device had several names. In the technical documentation it was listed as “loudspeaker”. More often it was called “reproducer”, and among the people — simply “dish”. They were desktop and wall-mounted, with various stands or hangers.

The device of the reproducer is very simple — it is a cone paper diffuser with a diameter of 36 cm, mounted on metal holders, combined with an electromagnetic mechanism. The electrical signal coming through the wires is converted into acoustic oscillations. In the center there is a mechanical volume controller.

Through such loudspeakers the residents of the USSR listened to the radio air of the only available radio station. It was the most important source of information — news, concerts, lectures. The Sovinformburo reports were broadcast through such loudspeakers. Radio broadcasting was a means of agitation and propaganda.
