On the ashtray made in the early 20th century the inscription ‘Tobacco and cigarettes of Y. M. Serebryakov, Omsk’ has preserved.
The merchant of the first guild Yakov Serebryakov was born in 1823. He started to work in an Armenian manufacturing shop in childhood, and then he opened his own shop. Serebryakov always had the best goods from abroad, that is why even people from other cities came to his store. He was elected a member of the City Duma several times and was an active participant in many charities. For example, he donated his plot of land for the building of the Armenian Church.
In 1893, Serebryakov bought a tobacco factory in Omsk. In 1901, he constructed a new building for it in the Omsk center, tooled up the factory with advanced equipment, provided it with the best raw material, and broadened the range of products.
Yakov Serebryakov and his son Georgy made their business enterprise famous abroad. The opening of the tobacco factory in Omsk made Georgy Serebryakov move from the city of Taganrog to the center of Western Siberia.
The enterprise was equipped with two kerosine engines having a power of 10 hp. The factory had 120 workers. It produced about 73.7 thousand kilograms of tobacco and cigarettes per year. In 1911, the factory turnover amounted to 300 thousand rubles. By 1914, the number of workers increased to 130, and production increased to 131 thousand kilograms of tobacco products. Georgy Serebryakov became one of the few Siberian manufacturers who traded only the products of their factory. He brought the goods to the Irbit fair by the Siberian railway.
