Sleds — wooden sleds, on skis. On the plane of the two skis, three rectangular holes are made, into which six wooden racks are inserted, tied in pairs with rods of unpeeled wood. A rectangular wooden box is mounted on the crossbars. The front part of the box is connected to the ends of the skis by two poles with a crossbar. A metal loop is nailed on the crossbar, into which a rawhide belt and a twisted wire are inserted. A cotton rope is tied to the crossbar.
Sleds are divided into manual, dog and deer sleds. A hand-sled about two meters long is dragged by the hunter himself on a strap slung over his shoulder, sometimes harnessing a dog to help.
The sleds that dogs are harnessed to, as a rule, are slightly larger than tame ones. Dogs are controlled with the help of a special pole, which is called a “chorey”. Such sleds are used not only by hunters and fishermen: women carry water and firewood on them.
Reindeer sleds are the biggest. They reach three meters in length, eighty centimeters in width (at the back) and about fifty centimeters in height. From three to eight reindeer are harnessed to such sleds. To do this, use a complex halter (bridle with one rein) of belts and bone plates. From the halter comes a leash-a rein, with which the rider controls the advanced deer. A leather strap is put on the chest of the animal, and a leather belt is placed on the trunk. Most often, the strap and belt are connected by straps. From the strap to the sled there is a heavy belt system.
On such sleds, food and other necessary things are brought to the hunting grounds, and with their help, the prey is taken to the camp.
