Zyaudin Bataev
The End of a Sultry Day
#3
In the painting, ‘The End of a Sultry Day’ Zyaudin Bataev depicted an evening view of the city pond in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, at the very beginning of fall.

He chose a symmetrical composition, abandoning sharp broken lines or unexpected color transitions. Such composition emphasized the calmness of a quiet evening: the outlines of the coast repeat the line of the forest edge on the horizon, and the forest itself is reflected in the water. The pattern of light clouds also echoes the edge of the trees. All parts of the painting are rhythmically repeated in each other, which creates a sense of an amazing harmony.

The artist also carefully worked on the color scheme of the painting. He managed to convey the natural shades of foliage, multi-colored ripples of water, a reflection of sunlight from the ecru walls of the house. At the same time, all shades are unified in the same way as the lines of the drawing: warm flashes of orange are repeated on the trees, the moored boats and even on the clothes worn by passers-by.

Zyaudin Bataev created the painting ‘The End of a Sultry Day’ in 2008 as a mature master. That year the artist turned 69.

He was born on April 7, 1939, in the village of Chernorechenskoye. At that time, the settlement was part of the Prigorodny District of the Checheno-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. In his youth, Bataev worked at the Mikhail Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in Leningrad as an apprentice of a painter. There he encountered glassblowing for the first time and became highly skilled in it. Later, at an invitation of the employees of the Novosibirsk Academic Town, he worked for ten years in the workshop of the Institute of Semiconductor Physics.

Presently, Zyaudin Bataev is a People’s Artist of the Republic of Ingushetia, he is known as a painter and creator of intricate quartz sculptures. ‘The Old Horseman’, ‘The Dancing Couple’, ‘The Dancer’ — all these beautiful artworks reflect the history of the Caucasian people in surprisingly smooth lines.

The master’s artworks were displayed at various expositions, he had several personal exhibitions, which were held at the State Museum of Fine Arts of Ingushetia in Karabulak and the National Museum of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in Nalchik.
