Medal ‘For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945’ was established by the Decree of The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 6, 1945.
The authors of the design of the medal are artists I.Andrianov and E.Romanov. Medal ‘For Valiant Work in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’. The medal was awarded to workers, engineers and employees of industry and transport, collective farmers and agricultural workers and other people who worked during the war and supported the army and navy. The award was also given to military officers who had taken up employment in production enterprises, to disabled persons, and to school-graduates provided that they had worked in wartime for at least six months. The award of the medal to collective farmers was conditional on their exceeding the minimum working days set in the collective farm and on the observance of work discipline in the collective farm.
Medal ‘For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945’ is worn on the left side of the chest and if there are other medals of the USSR is located after the medal ‘For the Liberation of Prague’.
The medal ‘For Valiant Work in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’ was awarded to more than 16 million people.
The medal was made of copper. It has the shape of a correct circle with a diameter of 32 mm. On the front of the medal is there is a profiled chest-high depiction of Joseph Stalin in a marshal’s uniform. There is an inscription in the upper part of the medal on the circumference: “Our case is just”, in the lower part on the circumference the inscription “We have won”. All the inscriptions and images on the medals are convex. Inscriptions on the back of the medal read: on the circumference - “For valiant work”, and in the center - “in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”. There is a sickle and hammer in the upper part, and there is a five-pointed star in the lower part.
The medal is attached by means of an earlet and a ring to a pentagonal pad wrapped in a red silk moire ribbon 24 mm wide. There is a green strip 7 mm wide in the middle of the ribbon. The edges of the ribbon are fringed by small yellow stripes.
On the medals issued immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War the earlet was welded on. On later versions of the medal the earlet and the medal were one-piece. Medals with a flat earlet, as represented by the medal, were issued at the end of 1945-1946.
