The main exhibition of the Museum of the History of the Resort City of Sochi, dedicated to the archaeological monuments of the Sochi region, presents a small silver Italic jug.

Despite the common shape of the jug, it can still be called unusual because of its decoration: the upper part of the jug’s handle around the neck is shaped like a palmette and is adorned with engraved images. According to researchers, this object dates to the late Roman period, around the 4th century CE. A similarly shaped jug with almost identical décor was found in Sirmium (the modern city of Sremska Mitrovica in Serbia, located on the left bank of the Sava River), it also dates to the first quarter of the 4th century. In its shape, the jug is close to Italic items of similar purpose from the beginning of the new era. The silver jug and other items found in the Krasnaya Polyana area indicate that local tribes used to have good trade relations. The jug was accidentally discovered in 1942 while digging a trench on the outskirts of the village of Krasnaya Polyana in a burial dating back to the first centuries CE.

In his book “Antiquities of Sochi and Its Environs”, Yuri Nikolayevich Voronov described the significance of the find as follows,
#6

The jug from Krasnaya Polyana is evidence of real connections with the tribes that inhabited the territory of modern Abkhazia. It is possible that a silver Sassanid dish, which had traveled a long way from Southern Iran, also came to Krasnaya Polyana through the territory or along the banks of Abkhazia. The local tribal elite and ordinary warriors regularly used various ancient items (ladles, jugs, cups, shields, jewelry). At the same time, individual items, such as swords, were made according to Sarmatian models.

Other significant items found in the Krasnaya Polyana trench include a bronze gilded boss — a projection in the middle of a shield, as well as an Iranian silver dish with an image of a bear hunt. Until 1992, the dish was kept in the collection of the Abkhazian State Museum, however, it was lost during the War in Abkhazia (1992–1993), and its current location is unknown.
