The permanent exhibition of the Museum of the History of the Resort City of Sochi “Sochi: From Prehistoric Times to This Day” consists of 14 halls with a total area of 700 square meters, presenting over 400 thousand exhibits.
The museum collection is a
unique archaeological legacy, which includes ancient tools, antique gold and
silver jewelry, Byzantine coins and rarities of early Christian culture. The
history of the multinational region is represented by rich ethnographic
material, household items and culture of the peoples who used to live on the
territory of the modern city. Part of the museum’s exhibition is dedicated to
the history of the resort development, with the theme being “Sochi — the Capital
of Russian Resorts”. It presents numerous photographs and documents, models of
buildings, and elements of resort culture, all reflecting the period of
pre-revolutionary development of the city, the reconstruction of the
Sochi-Matsesta resort in the 1930s–1950s, and the stages of the resort’s
development in the 1960s to 1990s. The exhibition “Man and Space” displays life
support items for astronauts — spacesuits and food, as well as a unique exhibit
— the descent module of the Soyuz-9 spacecraft.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
