On the reverse side, there are also some carved images: the Lord of Sabaoth, Our Lady of the Sign, the sacrament of the Eucharist, angels and seraphim, as well as three Christian saints: Gregory the Theologian, St. Basil the Great and St. John Chrysostom. Along the edges the cross is decorated with inlays of gilded silver and an inscription,

 
The future Metropolitan Cornelius was appointed bishop of Tobolsk in 1665. Historical records mention that the first summer after his arrival in Siberia was rainy, the harvest was almost lost, and the citizens were threatened with famine. Then Cornelius ordered to bring the miracle-working icon of the Mother of God of Abalaksk to Tobolsk. The heavy rains stopped on the same day and the parishioners felt special respect for the new metropolitan. To commemorate this event Cornelius ordered the miraculous image to be brought to Tobolsk every year on the 8th of July.

 
In 1668, Cornelius was appointed metropolitan of Siberia and Tobolsk. One of his main concerns was to renew the liturgical vestments: there was a lack of them in the diocese, and many items were dilapidated. The metropolitan donated part of the supplies to churches. Over the 14 years of his service in Tobolsk, there appeared bishop’s vestments embroidered with pearls and turquoise, ceremonial omophoria with gold lace and other items for church services.
