The painting ‘The Kholmogorsky Landscape’ was created by an unknown artist in 2003. It features the calm backwater of the Northern Dvina in the Kholmogorsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast. The conifer forests on the shores sometimes form such a dense canopy that little sunlight is allowed to break through the branches.
The painting was donated to the Primorye Arts and Crafts Museum by Semen Krivonogov’s grandson.

Krivonogov became the prototype of Senya Malina from Stepan Pisakhov’s fairy tales. Krivonogov was born in 1856 in the village of Uyma in Arkhangelsk Governorate. He completed only two years at the village school, but despite that, he was keen on reading, had a good memory and his fellow villagers considered him a talented storyteller. Krivonogov used to add some fiction to his stories, but when listeners noticed this, he responded,
