The collection of the Urazovo Local History Museum contains a photo collage depicting a Soviet actor, film director and screenwriter Vladimir Basov.
Vladimir Basov was born on July 28, 1923 in the settlement of Urazovo. He had Russian, Georgian and Finnish roots. His father, according to qualification, was a philosopher; the mother worked a lot with her son, so he went straight to the third grade of school.
In 1941, when Vladimir Basov was 18, he went to Moscow to find out what kind of documents are required for admission to the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). But his plans were ruined by the war and he soon got to the front. In 1943, in the rank of lieutenant of the quartermaster service of the 4th separate rifle brigade, Basov was awarded the medal ‘For Military Merit’ for exemplary performance of duties as head of the brigade’s club. The amateur ensemble organized by him gave more than 150 concerts for the fighters.
In the rank of senior lieutenant, Vladimir Basov commanded a battery of the 424th mortar regiment of the 36th mortar brigade at the 28th artillery breakthrough division of the General Headquarters (GHQ) Reserve. At the head of the assault group, he secured the capture of the stronghold of the German defense, but in the battle he was seriously wounded. For his feat, Basov was awarded the Order of the Red Star.
