The canvas presented in the museum’s exhibition was created by Nikolay Endaltsev. He was born in the village of Oshet, Mari ASSR. He studied at the Konstantin Savitsky Art School in Penza and the Mari Republican Art School. Nikolay Endaltsev is a participant of regional, interrepublican, and all-Russian exhibitions. He has held five solo exhibitions in Kirov, where he presently resides. A personal exhibition of the artist was successfully held at the Central House of Artists in Moscow. Nikolay Endaltsev participated in the exhibition “Russian Art of the 1960s–1990s” in Hamburg among 30 Russian artists. His works are kept in the collection of the Directorate of the Artists’ Union of Russia, in the Mari El Republican Museum of Fine Arts, in the Vyatka Art Museum named after Viktor and Apollinary Vasnetsov, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad. Several paintings by Nikolay Endaltsev were acquired by the State Tretyakov Gallery (“Dancing on Khlebnaya Square”, “The Artist and Sitter”, “The Akademicheskaya Dacha”). In terms of emotional tension and color palette, art historians compare his painting “Dancing on Khlebnaya Square” (1992) with the large crowd scenes in Vadim Abdrashitov’s films “Parade of the Planets” or “Magnetic Storms”.

The artist works in the genres of portrait, landscape, and genre painting, but prefers multi-figure compositions in which he presents the contemporary era in his own way. 

For Nikolay Endaltsev, his main task is to reflect life in its ordinary everyday situations with a touch of irony and kind humor.

The work of Nikolay Endaltsev “Collective Farm Market” is quite interesting from a historical point of view. It evokes a sense of nostalgia in the soul of the modern person who is already used to wandering alone in supermarkets. The painting “Collective Farm Market” depicts generalized, caricatured people, typical representatives of the environment. They sell what they have themselves produced — from meat and vegetables to towels and shovel handle grips. The picture shows the time that has irrevocably gone into the past.
