At the coronation ceremony, the imperial regalia, the orb, the sceptre, and the crown, played the key role. A whole series of ceremonial rites was centred around the symbols of power: they were transported from St. Petersburg to Moscow, placed in the Armory Chamber and later carried to the Assumption Cathedral. The Supreme Marshal of the coronation was at the head of the procession carrying the imperial regalia.

Yusupov was the only nobleman in Russian history to perform the role of Supreme Marshal during coronations of three Emperors: Paul I, Alexander I, and Nicholas I.
#4
There was a good reason why Yusupov received this honour three times: he came from an aristocratic ancestry, he was a nobleman of the highest rank and a confidant of Catherine II and Paul I.
#5
The coronation of Alexander I took place on 15 September 1801 at the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. The Ceremonial described everything that happened during the coronation, including the main event and the following ceremonial rites, as well as the interior decor of the cathedral and the Palace of the Facets.
