The collection “Theater Legends” celebrates the history of Russian and world theater. The museum houses exclusive photographs and personal belongings of famous actors and directors, portraits of famous theater enthusiasts, costumes, models of stage sets from the 18th to the 20th centuries, playbills, and brochures.
The Museum of Theater and Music takes special pride in housing the sketches by Léon Bakst, Alexandre Benois, Alexander Golovin, Konstantin Korovin, and Kazimir Malevich. The collection includes authentic stage costumes and accessories that used to belong to Anna Pavlova, Galina Ulanova, Natalya Makarova, and Vera Komissarzhevskaya. The museum also possesses items connected with the premieres of Mikhail Glinka’s “A Life for the Tsar, ” Nikolai Gogol’s “The Government Inspector, ” Alexander Griboyedov’s “Woe from Wit, ” as well as plays by Alexander Ostrovsky and Leo Tolstoy.
The “Theater Legends” was distinguished by the prestigious Museum Olympus award twice — in 2009 and 2011.
