The Russian artworks of the 18th — early 20th centuries represent a small but highly valuable part of the collection housed by the National Gallery of the Komi Republic. This collection began to form in the second half of the 1920s. Thanks to the initiative and contribution of the famous museum curator and anthropologist Daniil Yanovich, the Komi Autonomous Region received over 200 artworks from the State Museum Fund. These included paintings, graphic works, statues, and works of decorative and applied arts created by Russian and foreign artists in the period from the 17th century to the first third of the 20th century. Initially, this collection was intended for the Art Department of the Komi Museum of Local Lore but was eventually donated to the Art Museum of the Komi ASSR established in 1952.
The collection not only features the works of many
prominent Russian artists but also allows visitors to trace the development of
secular fine arts in Russia from the very beginnings to the modernist trends of
the 20th century.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
