The Saratov Regional Museum’s exhibits opened after the museum’s reconstruction in 1990. It takes the visitor on a journey, exploring the nature, history and culture of the region from ancient times right up to the modern day.
At the exhibition ‘Rarities of the Saratov Regional Museum’ it is possible to see ancient artifacts as well as objects representing the region’s more recent history. The exhibits include a famous Saratov concertina, Yuri Gagarin’s headset, rare materials relating to the 1921 Povolzhye famine and objects from memorial collections dedicated to Saratov’s most distinguished residents, including Nikolai Vavilov, Pyotr Stolypin, Boris Babochkin, Oleg Tabakov and Oleg Yankovsky. Dioramas allow visitors to see how Saratov Region looked hundreds of thousands of years ago.
