Saratov Regional Museum was founded in 1886 and is the largest Museum association in the Region. Today, it has ten different sections. Since 1930, the museum has been housed in one of the most significant architectural landmarks of 19th century Russian classicism in a city.
The museum’s collection boasts over 400,000 objects. The museum preserves a unique collection, including an exploration of Pyotr Stolypin’s life and work, rare materials about the 1921 Povolzhye famine, the history of the Volga Germans, the only Yakovlev Yak-1 aircraft in the world, a memorial collection to Yuri Gagarin, which is exhibited in the permanent exhibition entitled ‘The Way to Space’.
