The collection of the Volsk Museum of Local History contains a variety of valuable items: from paintings by famous artisans to a tooth of a giant prehistoric shark that lived at a time when there was a warm sea on the territory of the Saratov Oblast.
The art gallery is divided into several thematic halls: Ceremonial, Merchant, European, as well as a hall dedicated to the Wanderers artists. The gallery houses paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, Ivan Shishkin, Alexey Bogolyubov, and other artists. Its walls are covered with portraits of merchants — people who created the stone town of Volsk.
In addition, the museum has a hall with interior items of a noble estate of the first half of the 19th century, including the antique furniture that belonged to the penultimate Chancellor of the Russian Empire Karl Nesselrode.
