The Tkachyov Brothers’ 20th Century’ exhibition presents the joint work of Sergei and Alexei Tkachyov. The artists paint on the themes of universal values: motherly love, respect for work and loving your motherland. A section of the exhibition is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
The museum’s collection contains the famous works ‘Between Fights’ and ‘Children’, the latter of which was recommended to be included in the school curriculum by teachers in the USSR.
The Tkachyov brothers generally paint in a realist fashion. All of their paintings include reliable details relating to everyday life and customs. The artists pay great attention to accurately painting the stoves, oven forks and bedskirts found in rural villages, as well as the uniforms and weapons used in the Red Army, from Mosin rifles to Budyonovka caps. Viewers will discover the stories behind the real people depicted in their paintings, and will be able to find out how the great paintings were conceived.
