The exhibition is dedicated to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s early childhood. The composer called his first years the “rainbow time” which he passed in this house.
The Tchaikovsky family came to Votkinsk in 1837, when Ilya Petrovich was appointed the new head of the Kamsko-Votkinsk district. They spent 11 years in Votkinsk. On May 7, 1840, the composer was born here.
The exhibition presents authentic 19th–century household and interior items, sketches of scenery for ballets to Tchaikovsky’s music, paintings, and graphic works, as well as memorial items that were transferred by the Tchaikovsky Museum in Klin. One of the most valuable exhibits is the ‘Wirth’ grand piano. Tchaikovsky played on it when he first started studying music.
