The classical house, in which the Tchaikovsky family lived in Votkinsk, was built in 1806. The composer, his parents, brothers and sister lived here for 11 years, from 1837 to 1848.
In 1938, the Council of People’s Commissars endorsed the Votkinsk City Council’s initiative to open a museum in the house where Tchaikovsky was born. Mikhail Tutynin became its first director. On his request, researcher Nikolai Rukavishnikov, who was personally acquainted with Tchaikovsky, was sent to Votkinsk to set up the first exhibition.
Presently, the museum has grown and turned into an Estate Complex with a total area of 2 hectares. Guests can visit not only the memorial house, but also the park. An exhibition hall, a music salon and a storage facility were organized in the restored buildings near the house.
