The winners of All-Union Socialist Competitions received a special award that was aimed at improving work performance. They were awarded transferable Red Banners of the State Defense Committee of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks, the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, and People’s Commissariats.

In 1944, the Tyumen Shipbuilding Plant was awarded the banner for perpetual storage. On the front side, it had the embroidered inscription “State Defense Committee”, in the center —the images of Lenin and Stalin, and at the bottom — the inscription “Let’s defeat the German invaders under the banner of Lenin and Stalin”. On the back side in the middle, there was the coat of arms of the USSR and below — the following inscription,

The history of the Tyumen Shipbuilding Plant can be traced back to June 5, 1928. On that day, the board of the Leningrad Shipbuilding Trust approved the project and estimates for the construction of the Tyumen shipyard. However, ships had been built in Tyumen before that.

The first products of the plant included grain barges, other dry cargo ships, and lighters. By the end of the first five-year plan (1932), the Tyumen shipyard had launched 15 steamships, 37 lighters and barges. Some of the passenger boats, towing steamers, and barges were delivered to other regions.

In the fall of 1941, shipbuilding plants were evacuated to Tyumen from Moscow, Leningrad, various regions of Ukraine, and a number of other cities. All these enterprises were consolidated on the Tyumen shipyard. On December 31, 1941, the association was given the name “Tyumen Plant No. 639 of the People’s Commissariat of the Shipbuilding Industry”.

The plant converted to the production of military products. At first, cases of bombs and rocket warheads were produced there, and later the G-5 and G-5-123 bis torpedo boats. The plant was the only enterprise in the Soviet Union that produced torpedo boats during the Great Patriotic War. By the end of 1941, the first 16 boats had been built. In total, Tyumen shipbuilders constructed 165 torpedo boats during the war.
