The “Guards” badge was established on 21 May 1942 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On the introduction of the Guard military ranks for members of the Guard units and formations of the Red Army and the Navy”.

The “Guards” badge was issued to servicemen of military units, formations and associations of the Armed Forces of the USSR, transformed into Guards, and its image was also placed on the banners of these units.

During the Great Patriotic War, many units and formations of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army were transformed into Guards units for battle honors. By People’s Commissariat of Defense Order No. 70 of 7 March 1942, the 33rd High Speed Bomber Aviation Regiment was renamed the 10th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment. Its full name was the 10th Guards “Kiev” Red Banner of the Order of Suvorov III degree Bomber Aviation Regiment.

The “Guards” badge presented at the exhibition belonged to the commander of the squadron of this regiment V.S. Efremov.
