The artist depicted one of the halls in the Palace of Versailles, which was built in the 17th century during the rule of King Louis XIV. In the center of the composition, we can see a bas-relief by Antoine Coysevox in an oval frame on the wall, depicting Louis XIV on a horse. It is completed by two gold-plated trumpeting Glories. On both sides, the King is supported by kneeling naked young men in chains. The bas-relief stands on the mantle with the relief “Clio, the Muse of history, writing a chronicle of Louis XIV”. On the right, we see marble pilasters with mirrors — preserved elements of the interior designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart.
