The artist Leonid StarkOv depicted the moment of the meeting of YermAk’s squad with NikIta StrOganov, fateful for the StrOganov family for “YermAk Arrival to OryOl Fortress” painting. Trying to save trade routes and their own possessions, the industrialists MaxIm and Nikita StrOganov set out to destroy the Siberian Khanate hostile to the Russian settlers. They invited a squad of Volga Cossacks led by ataman YermAk TimofEyevich to OryOl fortress.
These events were reflected in the chronicle of the mid-17th century “On the capture of the Siberian land”, also referred to as “Stroganov”. The StrOganov Chronicle says that in 1579 540 people came to OryOl Fortress. They lived here for two years and two months, and then the Stroganovs equipped a Cossack colonial expedition to Siberia. Ermak’s squad was supplied with provisions and weapons, from OryOl fortress the squad went to ChUsovskie settlements to Maxim Stroganov, from where the Cossack campaign began. By 1584 YermAk conquered Siberia.
The exposition of the museum presents a pictorial sketch of 1956 - the artist did not finish the picture itself. The horizontal composition makes the canvas static and balanced. There are vigilantes who descended ashore and were led by the ataman YermAk on the right side of the painting. They are greeted with bread and salt by the inhabitants of Oryol fortress.
The compositional center is the figures of Nikita StrOganov and YermAk. The background with a high horizon is quite clearly painted, which makes it possible to see a large number of people, the expanse of the KAma, the sails of Cossack plows and the fortified wooden walls of Oryol.
Least of all, the author worked in the sketch for clothes, armor, military equipment and the faces of the central characters - Nikita, ErmAk and his warriors. However, he has already outlined a color composition, highlighting the figures of people in the foreground with cinnabar-red color spots.
Leonid Starkov (1894−1976) was born in Perm, lived in BereznikI from October 1941, worked in the art workshop of the Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant. From 1941 to 1968 he directed the first art studio in Berezniki, trained several professional artists. Participated in art exhibitions in Moscow, SverdlOvsk, Kaluga, Perm, BereznikI.
