Honore Daumier, a witness to two revolutions in France in 1830 and 1848, was a talented master in many aspects. He left behind a brilliant account of his era in pictorial caricatures, a sculpture, and a painting. In these, he materialized his creative views, which were inseparable from his democratic ideals.
The painting Revolt was associated with the 1848 revolution events. The artist conveyed the emotional state of the crowd drawn into the revolutionary momentum, the odor of the barricades, and the very spirit of life that Paris lived with during those years. He achieved a remarkable strength of expression not only through the dynamics of his composition, but also through the stark contrasts of light and shadow. Interestingly, the painting initially belonged to artist Charles-François Daubigny.#1
