Alexey Yeremin painted the ancient church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, which was located in the Karelian city of Kondopoga. The artist painted the picture in a calm and soothing color scheme: delicate shades of blue, green and silver-gray for water, shores and the sky, brown and golden - for the church and other buildings. In the horizontal composition, which forms the background, the temple with the pointed hipped dome looks especially elegant and light. The author worked through the light nuances so that the church seems illuminated by the sunlight. Alexey Yeremin also conveyed ripples on the water, slight brilliance of the waves, transparency of the air with flares and shades.

The artist built the composition of the painting In Kondopoga on the side scene principle - just as they make a stage in the theater. The side scene in the work is formed by the boats and small wooden buildings at the forefront. They frame the composition and emphasize its main element - the temple.

The favorite theme in the creative work of Alexey Yeremin was the landscapes of his native region of Zaonezhiye. In his memoirs, the artist wrote: Without my Zaonezhiye region I’m not a human being, nor an artist. He was interested in drawing from his childhood, he studied in a club, where Vasily Smirnov, a graduate of the Academy of Arts, taught. In 1934 15-year-old Alexey Yeremin won the drawing contest with an illustration of Nikolai Gogol’s novel The Overcoat.

‘For the illustration to Gogol’s Overcoat I received the first prize. <…>I was called to the stage, they shook my hand, gave me a sketchbook, oil paints in the set, books.<…>
The first oil paints - given as a prize - I diluted them with water, at first it did not work. Then with kerosene. Painted my grandfather from the photo. My father hung the portrait on a wall and showed it to guests with pride’.
