Georg Dinges was born in the family of a wealthy German colonist in the village of Blumenfeld in the Novouzensky district of the Samara province, now the village of Tsvetochnoye in the Staropoltavsky district of the Volgograd region. He studied at the Central Russian School and the 1st Saratov male gymnasium. In 1917 he graduated from the historical-philological faculty of Moscow University, where he began to study science. The subject of his thesis was 'On the history of Russian borrowings in the language of Volga Germans’ (1914-1917). As a member of the German Colonists Union, he joined the Volga Commissariat for German Affairs, worked on the establishment of the first German autonomy, and later became a member of the government. In November 1918, he was elected a Lecturer in German language at Saratov University, in January 1919 he became the head of the German Philology Department, in 1921 he was already an associate professor of the German Philology Department, in 1923 — a professor of the Department of Western European Languages and Literature. In 1923, he published a number of works on the territories of Volga Germans in the middle of the XVIII century and on Volga-German dialects. In 1925, he established the Central Museum of the ASSR NP (Autonomous Soviet Socialistic Republic of Volga Germans). Professor Dinges was at the origins of the creation of the Nempedinstitut (German Pedagogical Institute). On November 30, 1930, he was arrested by the GPU authorities (the intelligence service and secret police of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic). On February 1, 1932, he was exiled to Western Siberia for 3 years, where he subsequently died.
