The painting “Among Kindred Spirits. Tribute to Ivan Goncharov” was created by an artist Arkady Yegutkin in 2008. It depicts the famous novelist standing among the characters from his novel “Oblomov”. In the foreground, there is Ilya Ilyich Oblomov dressed in a robe and sitting on the iconic sofa with a contemplative look on his face. To his right, a table with a teacup, a candelabrum with three candles, and an open book can be discerned. Goncharov’s figure is placed somewhat behind Oblomov: he holds something resembling a tray with a quill, an inkwell, and a sheet of paper in his hands.
The figures in the background are not seen as clearly as the foreground ones. The characters’ outlines seem to show through the yellow-orange background. On the left, there is Oblomov’s love interest Olga Ilyinskaya, his best friend Andrey Stoltz, and his servant Zakhar. The right side of the painting depicts the faces of Oblomov’s future wife Agafiya Pshenitsyna and Mikhey Tarantyev, the protagonist’s fellow townsman and friend.
